.41 Magnums

I like the sights on my 57 but the barrel length of my 58. I know we say this a lot......but get them both. Mine are not collector grade but I enjoy the heck out of them.

I'm in favor of moralem's solution.
For many years my only .41 was a Ruger BH 4 5/8". Great gun, hunted with it, took a few deer.
Then, the S&W bug got me, sold it to get a M58, a c.1965 model. Really enjoyed that, also hunted with it, took a few deer (I'm guessing not many folks have hunted with M58's)

Did want a longer barrel, but not about to get rid of the M58, I found a M57 6" on GB for a good price. It had a little wear and rash along one side of the barrel, easily cleaned/touched up. It too was to be a hunting tool so cosmetics were not an issue. Shoots great, and has deer ahead for it.

Good luck on your pursuit.

Well, if i were hunting, and I do not anymore. RI is a s screwed up as Hogan'd goat relative to pistols and rifles, and private land written permission so people do not hunt. Hence we are getting over run with deer, and in many cases they are starving.

I lived in PA for 13 years, and i can tell you when rifle season starts you have the 4th largest army in the world in the woods. I am digressing. If I were hunting, I would have an 8 3/8 in for that. 6" minimum. an 8 3/8 may be on the horizon.

However, the push right now is for # 2 son's Bday present. So I have a WTB ad on the forum for a M28, which I consider a gift that will last a young man all his life

General range use and target or plinking, the 57, carry once in a while, the 58. The 58's are hard to find in good condition as are the -2 57's which are the more desirable 57's except for the s prefix. Can't go wrong with either.

My favorite 41 magnum

I'll always go with a 58. I love the clean lines and have never been a fan of adjustable sights. It is also my edc. Go big or stay home I like to say!

Which one would you pick if both guns were in identical condition?

A Model 57 with a 6 1/2" barrel (N806XXX) or a Model 58 with a 4" barrel (N270XXX)?

Is either one worth more than the other? More sought after?
I've been playing with S&Ws for over 50 and have never seen a 6&1/2" 57?
