I usally use Unique for all my .41Mag loads But I would like to try a new powder. I have 8 pounds of Red Dot that I have been using to load 45's and was wondering if any one has ever used it to load .41Mag.

Searching for Red Dot loads using .41 Caliber 210 Grain Truncated Cone bullets or any other bullets has turned up nothing.

Has any one every used it?

Over at Handloads.com they list the following loads;

Pressure: 33,400

210gr JSP 8.2 gr Red Dot 1,225 fps 1.575" Rem 2.5 Alliant
Suggested starting load: 7.4 gr

Hope this helps.

You should be able to start at 4.0 and work your way up depending on how hot you want to load. I wouldn't go over 8.

41 Mag Red Dot loads

From the Alliant Reloader's Guide:

.41 Rem. Magnum Red Dot

Bullet Primer Min.OAL Bbl lgth Chg.Wt FPS PSI

200 HP Rem 1.580" 6" 7.5grs 1,200 33,400
2 1/2

210 JSP " 1.575" 6" 8.2 grs 1,225 34,300

220 JHP " 1.575" 6" 7.4grs 1,125 35,900

If you are using a lead, truncated cone, I would back down from the 210gr JSP load of 8.2 grs to 7.5grs, and work up from there, if you are looking for velocity. If not, shoot the lesser load and save yourself some pain, as well as powder. Remember to start out conservatively and work up carefully, paying attention to pressure signs constantly. Chronograph if you can.
Once you have used up the Red Dot, I think you will be much more satisfied with H-110/W296, 2400, or AA-9.

Speer nos. 8 and 9 list loads for a 210 gr LSWC and a 215 gr LSWCGC, respectively. They both use a starting load of 7.0 grains and a max of 8.0 grains.

Thanks for the help.. All that information gave me a good starting point.

I think I'm going to use 6grs of Red Dot to start with 215gr lswc to start.
