I'm new to the pistol and new to the forum. I have a few S&Ws but this is my first S&W .22.

First, can anyone tell me what year a TEH prefix serial would have been shipped. No biggie but I would like to know about how old it is.

Second, does anyone have a source for the itty-bitty E clip that goes on the trigger pin. S&W calls it a retaining ring. Mine seems to have disappeared during a previous ownership. Gun Parts say they have it but I'm sceptical based on previous experience.

UPDATE: Found one in an assortment of E clips and snap rings I had in my tool box! Surprised I had one that small.

The recoil spring seems a little weak so I ordered a new one from Wolff. Currently working on cosmetics and maintenance. Looks just like every other blue 6" target version with walnut grips.

Thanks Thin Man. Just wanted a ballpark date. Heinz, not sure what the dark triangle is but I guess I must be from the "light" triangle of NC.

Been eying these for years and then the stars aligned and I picked this one up. I think I'll wait for the new spring before I take it to the range.

1) if you have the original box with end label, the "born on" date can be found on that label. Without that, you can email S&W with your serial number and they will reply with a date

2) if it's one of those circle-clips, I believe you can buy very low cost "assortment" boxes of these at Harbor Freight or even, ugh, Amazon, and have them at the ready

3) the picture as a thumbnail… hmmm, I'm definitely not a picture posting expert but I have seen that pictures on this forum seem to be posted in MULTIPLE different way and some ways are better than others. The way I've used works best (at least IMO!) as there is no thumbnail and no extra clicking. For example:

To post this picture, the image must be hosted and the specific syntax looks like this:

NOTE: where I used { and }, a [ and ] is needed instead. Had to use the brackets to actually show the syntax, otherwise it would simply post the picture a second time.

Sevens,

1) No box but I did get an owners manual. 1989 is close enough for me for now. Called S&W to complain that they didn't have a 422 series manual online so they sent me one? Guess I will have two now.

2) As noted above, I surprised myself and found a clip in my toolbox.

3) Got the picture fixed. I was trying to use this software to copy the picture from my hard drive. Copied in the link from my imaging host site and all is well.

Thanks for your response.

Welllllll, the mailman just dropped off my new manual from S&W today. It's for an M&P. First glance seems to indicate it's not going to be very useful for my 422.
