The first thing you need to do is contact the S&W Historical Foundation for a factory letter. It will tell you when and where the revolver was shipped and if the inscription was applied at the factory (unlikely, but you never know until you ask). The information in the letter will guide your next steps.

It appears that Maj. Jordan served on the staff of the 70th Field Artillery Brigade in the late 1920s-early 1930s in Oklahoma. The was obviously a presentation revolver for his service- probably upon his transfer, promotion to another unit, or his retirement. I was unable to find any reference to the 70th FA Brigade, but there is some info on the 45th FA Brigade in Oklahoma (Oklahoma Army National Guard). Perhaps the units are related some how. Looks to be a fine revolver, but some additional research would be required to figure out its provenance. Good luck!

Ancestry.com is a good source for information. It led me to a number of clues which helped me build a biography for the recipient of a Registered Magnum presented by the Field Artillery unit he commanded in 1939. Good luck.
