Thanks in advance to all, I cannot remove the cylinder from this revolver. I have rotated the cylinder counter-clockwise while holding the top break latch up but cylinder just spins. What am I missing?

Did you pull up on the cylinder when you tried to unscrew it?

Yes, hold the barrel catch up when removing or installing the cylinder. A slight upward pull is required as the cylinder is rotated counterclockwise to remove the cylinder.

You're missing Chicoine's Antique Firearms--Assembly/Disassembly. Given that you can get your hands on a copy, you'll be able to do the deed with pretty much anything close to and within the title. We're here in the meantime--------at least for the S&W part of it.

Thanks all. I have pulled while rotating c-c. Even tried a wood wedge between cyl & frame for slight pressure while rotating hoping to catch a thread.

Oil

Does the cylinder spin easily or is it gummy?

Try working oil and or penetrant into the base pin by opening the action so the ratchet is almost fully out. Drop oil into the ratchet shaft and work up and down. Must be full of gummy grease that has turned near solid.
