Does anyone know if S&W ever made a 44 magnum revolver with an 8" barrel? I have seen a .357 magnum with an 8" barrel but not a .44.

8.375" is a common barrel length for Model 29s and 629s of various vintages. If you have encountered one that is 8" even, it may have been cut down.

The 8 3/8" barrel length is pretty common on older S&W model 29 .44 Magnums. Check the auction sites and you should turn up several.

Quite popular for silhouette shooting back in the day...

And one helluva hunting revolver.
Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Also in 10 1/2 and 7 1/2 too, but way less common.

The 8 3/8 barrels were made both full lug & partial lug (like pics above).

In the mid '80's S&W made a M29-3 with a 10 5/8" barrel. It was called the "Silhouette" and had the three T's and an adjustable front sight. Product Code 101202.
