.44 Magnum Ammo

Hey guys, Catdaddy needs some guidance. Just purchased some CCI Blazer 44 Mag 240 Gr. JHP loads for for my S&W 29-3, 44 mag. Are these shells OK to run through this weapon? Also what is some good ammo ($) for target shooting? I know it might be a little pricey to fire this gun, but I'm willing to splurge every now & then. I don't play golf or fish.

Very nice buy, and Welcome.

Blazer is good ammo, and helps that it's on the economical side. Expect prices of $30/box or more these days, but . I like Semi-Jacketed Soft Points for practice and most carry, preferably Winchester, but just about any will do. Magtech makes decent .44, but I've had issues with their small calibers (.380 and under).

You might also think about using .44 Special if you can find it.

Until the experts show up, I'll say that the 240gr Blazers are fine for your magnum revolver.

I do know that they are potent recoiling ammo, 44spl rounds in the 200gr are what I shoot for "fun".

If the CCI's (Blazers) are still aluminum cases they might be "sticky" to extract.

make good ammo and the prices are as good as any other factory ammo I've found. Their 240 grain lead loads in .44 mag are equivalent to the old Winchester midrange loading (about 1100 fps).

I've only heard good things about these guys, but haven't personally tried their ammo. Check out the price of their remanufactered ammo.

Thanks for the input. Feel better about the bullets. The gun looks so clean, I hate to fire a single round through it. But the temptation is to great to get the feel of the recoil & hear the sound of the shot.

I know it's going to be mentioned, so I might as well. Get into reloading. Reloading is the only way you will realize the full potential of your gun, being able to shoot light target loads all the way up to loads hotter than the factories put out. While there is an initial investment in money and time, reloading for 44 mag will pay off your investment much faster than for, say, 9mm.
