44 Magnum engraved by Alvin White in early 1957. Stocks by Mr. White recently obtained at the S&WCA symposium in June. Mr. White was a master at working in metal, wood, ivory, jade and other materials. Click on the photo for a better look. Collecting stocks carved and inlaid with ivory by Alvin White is quite a challenge, but over the years I have managed to acquire eight pairs. Wood types range from figured walnut, to Goncalo alves, to rosewood and birds eye maple.

44 Magnum prototype, S121836, with stocks by Keith Brown also obtained at the S&WCA symposium in June. Based on photographs of one other prototype, these stocks are very close to what would have been on the revolver in January 1955. Click on the photo for a better look.

Love the AAW grips and the carved ivory insert is way way over the top!!! Would have loved to have been there and seen them in person. When you tire of them, feel free to send them my way and I'll find something appropriate to put them on... :D

The stocks on the four inch at first look like service grips with. Tyler t grip. But then I look closer and can see they are targets. That's incredible work!

Alvin White has always been a favorite of mine, and I think a pretty good case could be made that he is at the top of the list of engravers that we're masters in several mediums. Looking at guns like this never gets old and it's an extra treat to see a set of my grips on One of your Magnums.

Thanks Bill !

Great stocks Bill (and revolver too of course; how did I miss seeing the stocks at Concord? So much to see, so much to handle, so little time. . . .

Bill,
I too love the Alvin White carved grips. Every time you show a pair of this type of carved grips, I become extremely jealous.:) Like Richard said above, the carved ivory insert puts it way over the top. When I enlarged the picture studying the inserts, there is obviously a pattern carved in them. Is it a known symbol? It appears, to me, to have a capital "G" in the carving.
