My first N frame, I can't believe this center pin! It looks like it has been in there quite a while. It's the wrong diameter as well as a little short. The end of the pin that goes through the star was shorter than the pins I had except for one,, but it was too short overall. The new pins came long and I removed.020 for a perfect fit.

There is quite a variation in center pins. The over all length, the length from spring stop to the frame end etc. If you get one that is to long it is easy to trim and polish them to the correct dimensions.

But if you don't have any that will work you can do like I did once. Get a piece of music wire (spring steel) of the correct dimension from Fastenal or a variety of other suppliers. them make a small collar piece with the correct OD and a slightly under sized ID, heat it up hot (Not red though) in a set off old hemostats and slide it onto the music wire where it will shrink and seize. The tiny spring will never move it from that location. all the real stresses on center pin are longitudinally on the rest of it and those are not that much and most all of that is encased in the rod and ejector I would bet that red Loctite would also work.
