I’m a competitive pistol shoot shooter, competing in IDPA, ICORE and ASI. As it’s damn cold outside, I spent some time reviewing some of the videos of my matches. One that stood out was one where for fun, I brought out one of my 44 specials. It was a hoot to shoot.

The more I shoot my 44 specials, the more I enjoy them. They are accurate, have a smooth action, and the recoil with factory rounds & my reloads. Just wish ammo was more readily available and less expensive

So, report to 44 Spl roll call

Obligatory pic of my M24-3 & my M21-4

Just two 44 Specials for me. Have several magnums, but specials only are:

24-3 Lew Horton 3 inch
624 no dash 4 inch

I don’t have a pick of the 24-3. I need to fix that. The 624 had to go back to Smith as it started to develop push-off. The performance center fixed it for me as they are apparently the only people that have the skills to work on the older revolvers anymore. It came back with an awesome trigger.

I do really love 44 special. It’s a joy to shoot and reload.

I prefer double actions but am quite fond of the single action as well.
696 no dash
2nd model HE 6 1/2in
Ruger flattop Blackhawk 5 1/2in
Taurus 441 4in
Charter arms bull dog 3in
Some have gone some have stayed but there’s always at least 1 44spl on hand.

My most recent purchase happens to be a NOS stainless Ruger Blackhawk in .44 SPL. I think I am really going to like it. I ran some handloads through it this weekend and found at least one that exceeds my expectations. The checkered plastic grips are going to have to go. Skeeter loads, plow-handle grip frame, and checkering are not a good mix for me.

I've also got 2nd and 3rd gen Colt SAAs in .44 SPL. (one each).

I guess I need to branch out to double action at some point.

I am relatively new to the 44 spl world, but I jumped in with both feet.

24-3

696nd

Ruger Bisley 4.6”
