442/642 Front Sight Options?

I got around to doing mine. The flash kind of washed the color out, it is brighter in person, and I am very happy with the results. Using white for a first coat was a really great idea, it makes the orange really POP. Ed

Thanks for the great idea

Thanks for the great idea. For some reason, Amazon wanted about $30 for an ounce of that paint, so I went to Hobby Lobby and got them for $3.99 each. I had my 642 refinished by the factory because of corrosion, and they could only do it in black, so I was concerned about being able to see the front sight in a pinch, although the 642 has a very natural "point" for me. As an afterthought, I marked the rear sight in white.

For my 642, I did what M&P Freak did but only with glow type fishing lure paint. I first had to do the white paint as he did, then orange. I also have a green, but haven't tried it. The krylon paint he used looks shinier than mine, so I may have to try it. Also may put some white paint in the rear like others have as well. Anyway the bright or glow in the dark paint does help in regular to somewhat low light. And very cost effective.

Currently I use red nail polish, works good and lasts.

Years ago I had a 640 that I had a Tritium dot drilled into the front sight and they milled out and out a tritium bar under the rear sight. I still had to paint the front sight (yellow) for daytime but the tritium worked great for nights.

The company that did the work used to be in Albuquerque and then moved to Texas. Not sure wear and the name escapes me, but their prices were very reasonable.
