I see that the 442 Pro Series revolver has the cylinder cut for moon clips. Does this mean the revolver has to be loaded using moon clips, or only that it can be?

Thanks,

John

That's a good question, anyone know?

I would think that if the cylinder is recessed to accept moon clips, you would have to use moon clips.

No, you can shoot it with or without moon clips. The cylinder is not machined all the way out and the rim of the cartridge rests on the edge of the cylinder. The moon clips aresmaler in diameter than the cylinder and the cylinder is recessed for the moon clip to fit flush.

Does that mean that when you shoot without moon clips that only part of the case rim is supported by the cylinder? And that is OK?

Same question

I was about to post this same question about the 640 Pro. I like the idea of being able to use moon clips but hate to be required to.

I'm having trouble finding a 640 Pro. Can a standard cylinder be modified to accept moon clips?

Besides the moon clips capability and the IL, are there other differences between the Pro Series 442 and my Heller Commemorative 442?

Internal lock.

NO, to my understanding the use of moonclips is optional, and the cartridge works FINE without them.

So, choice of hand reloading, speedloaders, OR moonclips.

I'm going to have my older 442 cut for the use of optional moonclips, as I like the speedloader, but believe moonclips will be even faster.

On this same topic, does anyone know whether the 442 Pro Series- or any of the new Pro Series J frames in general- comes with moonclips, or do they have to be purchased separately?

A portion of the catridge rim is not supported when using gun without moonclips. I use my converted 686 with moonclips in competition and without when plinking. The mood clips are very thin, not like ones for 45 ACP. They only work well with Remington, Federal or similar brass. The groove in the Winchester brass is just too tight.

This correct. TK Custom is the OEM manufacturer & supplier of moonclips for all the new J-Frame models using .38/.357 moonclips.
