Does anyone know where I can get that tiny tiny little spring on the 442 hammer that keeps pressure on the plastic piece ? Can't believe I didn't work on it inside a plastic bag. Thanks for any help.

Don't know if the S&W plant would have/ship that. Bolsa Gunsmithing is a S&W warranty station in California. Google them for their phone # and see if they would ship it to you. Do you have an exploded drawing so you can ID the part by # for whomever you call?

Is that piece really plastic or is it MIM steel? Can you stick a magnet to it while you have your gun apart? Thanks.

Can you describe it better, or supply pic of area. I have a cylinder bolt spring and detent from a 638 if we are talking about the same thing? (I don't think we are).

I made the same kind of mistake, but I'm much better now since they changed my medication!

FYI: S&W did send me those parts no problem when I called them. I know sometimes it is an issue, gunsmith wise, but If you talk to them like you know what you are doing, they will almost always send the parts gratis.

I got curious and took down my 442-1. The sear is definitely steel and not plastic. It's MIM and sure looks like plastic. The mainspring rod swivel is the only plastic piece.

Just got off the phone with Smith and Wesson. Problem solved. Boy if everyone's CS was that good. Thanks for the replies.
