My department issue .45 ACP round is the Federal 230 grain bonded Plus-P. Before that, it was the Hydra-Shok 230 grain Plus-P. Our training round is the Federal red box 230 grain standard velocity FMJ.
There just isn't much recoil difference between .45 ACP standard and Plus-P. The ball round is listed at 890 fps while the Plus-P is 950 fps. If I load both mixed in the same magazine, it is not easy to be sure which is which. If one doesn't bother you, the other won't, either.
The extra 60 fps velocity probably helps insure bullet expansion.
