45 ACPWheel Gun Love It Or Leave It

Just got a 625 JM. Have been waiting for one for a long time. Can't wait to get it too the range.

My 325NG is with me pretty much every time I am in the woods. I carry Federal Hydra-Shoks in moon clips when bumming around the woods, and use my home casts in .45 AR cases at the range.

Cheers,

Rick

Nice one. Looks like you replaced the original C&S fixed rear sight with something else. Can you elaborate?

Like just about everybody else here, I have a great appreciation for the .45 ACP revolver. I always thought of myself as a .44 kind of guy, but I have almost as many .45s as the reduced-bore guns.

Sometimes a four inch barrel is too long, and you want something like this 625-3 Model of 1989:

Other times you want a longer barrel, like the 5-1/2 inches on this early 1917...

... or this knockabout Brazilian, which always grouped well but now shoots closer to POA than you see here after some minor home gunsmithing.

Even though the loyal opposition is mostly known for its .45 semi-autos, they made some darn fine revolvers in that chambering too. Like this pair for example.

When I first heard of revolvers that chambered .45 ACP years ago, my first thought was, "Oh, why?" As soon as I acquired and range tested my first one, I knew the answer immediately.

I have never shot .45 AR in any of these. I am a huge fan of moonclips for the reasons mentioned above, and in moonclips, the nylon Rimz units are my absolute favorite. Yes, they are expensive compared to stamped steel, but boy are they easy to work with!

David,

It's a Bowen Rough Country V-Notch with White-Post rear sight. With The original C&S My hits were about five-seven inches low for me at 7-10 yards with 230 grain factory and my hand loads. So I tried this and now POI matches POA. I'm happy with it.

Cheers,

Rick

I enjoy shooting with & w/o moons and ARs. I have a plastic tray that carries a bunch of loaded moons. Also like Tuff strips in back pocket for personal protection. Also shoot many semi autos,RSAs and enven a Tommy Gun. :)

I have a 25-2 and its an excellent shooter with the 235 gr. Keith SWC and 4 grs. of Bullseye in 45 a.c.p. or 45 auto rim. I prefer the auto rim as I don't like messing with the moon clips! One hole groups at 25 yards all day long too!
