can I consider the .45 auto rim to be about the same as a .44 special or .45 colt cowboy load? what I really want to know is would a 625 with auto rim and a 250g keith be a good 50 yard and under small (100 - 125 pound) button buck or doe gun?

the reason for the comparison question is I have used both the 44 special and 45 colt cowboy factory loads for this before and never had any problems getting my deer, ruger vaquero in 44 special and blackhawk in 45. I am thinking that useing auto rim with a 250g at about 850 fps would be almost exactly like a factory 45 colt at cowboy velocity. trying to talk myself into buying a new 625 for winter conceled carry and short range hunting.

I know that when I was sucessfully hunting West Virginia mountain deer, about 140 pound scrub bucks, I would load DOWN my 44 mags to 600- 700 fps behind 240 grain lead. It would drop the deer after just a few yards run. I always thought that big slow moving lead killed as well as my rifle at short ranges.

Go for it.

The Modern 625 is a very strong revolver. I have been using 45 Super almost exclusively with mine for probably close to two decades now.

My 45 Super load moves a 260 grain Speer JHP out at just over 1000 FPS.

45 Super brass is stronger than 45 AR brass, but your goals sound achievable and safe.

is 45 super brass longer? or just stronger, thicker web? what makes it different from a +p 45 acp case?
