I use the 280 grain bullets I have cast with my RCBS 454-270 SAA mold, with great success in a couple of Uberti SAA Clones, and I want to try this bullet in 45 Auto Rim cases to be used in a modified Webley MK VI, that was converted to 45 ACP by shortening the rear of the cylinder.

My current load with 200 LWSC bullet shoots 6-8” below the point of aim at 15 yards.

I understand that the load need to be kept below 13K PSI.

Any recommendations on where to start with the 280 grain bullet ?, I have not been able to find published loads for this bullet in this range for .455 or 45 ACP/AR.

I have been reloading for many years, and I have never been comfortable trying to extrapolate loading data with significant changes in the weight of the bullet, especially in low pressure handgun loads.

I have the common powders Bullseye, Unique, Green Dot, Red Dot, 700x, 231/hp-38, titegroup, herco etc. on hand.

Thanks in advance !

I can't give you any magic recipes, but if I were in the same situation, I would start off with a load of 4 grains of Bullseye (or anything similar such as Clays, 700-X, etc.) and chronograph the MV, adjusting the charge up or down to get a MV around 650 ft/sec. 4 grains of Bullseye should provide a peak chamber pressure below 10,000 psi.

Agree on 4/bullseye recommendation, I use 4 titegroup and get around 750 fps and low pressure with many lead bullets including 250-255s. If concerned start with 4 w231

My SWAG starting load was 4.5 grains of Unique and 3.2 of Bullseye and watch for squib.
