I just bought a model 325 Night Guard which is chambered for .45 ACP. I was wondering if anyone had any experience using .45 auto rim rounds in any of the revolvers chambered for .45 ACP?

Auto rim should work just fine in this revolver as well as the various 25's and 625's chambered in 45 ACP.
Do a search on the 45 auto rim - there's been many posts on the subject.

auto rim

i use both the 45 acp and the auto rim shells they will work fine, i load a 255 grain colt bullet in mine and no fooling with the clips, just carry the loaded clips for a fast reload.

I use .45 AR in my 625-3 . . . and I use the .45 ACP as well. Frankly, the short, fat Auto-Rim round is my favorite of all to handload. I use full moon clips with the ACPs and speedloaders with the .45AR rounds. I tend to handload the .45 ARs with loadings that would not be smart to use in my .45 ACP semiautos, just so that there's no mistaken use of an inordinately warm 255-grain loading in a gun that wouldn't be appropriate for it.

AR in NG

I carry a 325NG on a regular basis, loaded with 230 gr GD ARs from Double Tap. Out of the 2.5" bbl, they average around 830 fps.

If you reload, the possibilities are endless and life is good. I use Starline brass. It seems to last like 38 spl brass, which is to say forever. Before the Starline was available, the only brass I could find was the ocasional lot of Remington, which seemed to be good for two or three loadings before splits started appearing. I don't know if others had that problem.

Enjoy, they are fun guns.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't reload, though, so for now I am buying factory ammo. One of the gun shops I frequent does offer reloading, but it comes out about the same as buying new. The only difference is you can't always find "new" around here.

I know I probably should get into reloading, and I certainly have the space to do it in...but given my propensity to turn routine tasks into major disasters, I'm not sure I should. :o

I just loaded some moon clips...kind of awkward at it. I ordered a tool that should make it better. Looks pretty cool anyway.

Remington Factory Auto Rim shoots great in my 325.

Has a little less recoil than Remington factory 230gr ball.

I have used 45 AR in by 45 ACP revolvers. However I finally opted for 45ACP in moonclips. Using 45AR required another shellplate and another ammo inventory. I opted for simplicity of inventory.

That sure makes sense, Tsquared. Myself, I'd - in all honesty - be perfectly happy to go the other way and just go all .45 AR. It's just that there's so much good free .45 ACP brass lying around all the time! :D I can't not load it!

buffalo bore makes a standard and a +p AR round.
standard is 200 HP at 1000
+p is 200hp at 1200

a little more oomph than a 45 ACP.

most other factory stuff is prettty weak in regards to many old guns out there

Maybe you shouldn't, but you could seek a mentor and explore the possibility further. Reloading seemed like a daunting task to me, and I'm self taught, but I would always recommend to a novice that they learn while working with someone who's experienced.
