.45 carry ammo

After my time at the range today, the range was stacking a huge amount of CCI ALUMINUM .45 ammunition, at an unbelievable price of $21.99 for 50 rounds. As I walked over to where they were putting it, I over heard a group of court bailiffs; who were there to do their re-qualifications, and it was their consensus to stay away from it, and stick with the brass rounds, with were about $10 more per box.

I have used brass ever since I retired from the military; where ALUMINUM was issued all the time. Has the quality fallen off that much, or is there a reason not to use it anymore?
As a LEO I noted most of my coworkers were not gun enthusiasts like they were 50 years ago.

For those of you that opt for hardball in a .45-

Is there a specific round you use for CCW purposes as opposed to range ammo? Or do you just fill the mag with the same WWB, etc. that you shoot cans with?

I load my own using 185 grain Berry's plated RN-HB. I load them warm - 1,050+fps/453fpe for all-around use. That's what I have boxes and boxes of on the shelf, and that's only to feed all my non-converted .45 auto handguns.
My EDC is a .460 Rowland with the same Berry's 185 gr. RNHP loaded to 1,580fps/1,025fpe. This load blew apart a cinder block in just five shots. I also have Hornady XTP 185gr. loaded to the same spec but I trust the hardball to penetrate better and do more damage due to the supersonic shockwave.

Horse and buggy always got me to town before, why would I buy a car? That is exactly what you sound like. Unless you are tied to Ball ammo by some local law, why wouldn't you give yourself every tactical advantage possible? A flat point ball is best, and 45 is no doubt the best ball. But why not upgrade to a modern hollow point. Better flash suppressed powder, loaded slightly faster, and generally more accurate. Those are reasons enough to open your wallet! To say nothing of the fact they are more effective. This is not 1943...you are not shooting at a 19 year old underfed, under equipped and scared enemy combatant...you are facing a well fed, hard muscled from his time inside prison, hopped up dope fiend that wants to kill you for his next fix. Do not go cheap on me now, gents! I enjoy talking to you, but you might not survive the unthinkable if you save thirty bucks by passing on premium ammo.
