I'm looking at buying one of these. I want to know how heavy they are? Does any one carry one? Also any pictures would be great.

I thought I had a weight written down for mine, but it turned out to be for a 629 Mtn Gun. That one weighs 39/44 ounces unloaded/loaded, with the stock Hogue grips.

A 625 would probably weigh a bit less, but not a lot. Maybe an ounce or two?

A .45 Commander is going to weigh considerably less.

yugolovr,

I realize this is subjective, but I don't consider a 4" N frame to be heavy. They are comfortable as well as comforting with the proper holster.

I have the 25-13 Mountain Gun, and I carry it quite often. Right now I am giving the MG a break though, and am carrying my 27-2, which is a bit heavier but not by much.

My 625-8 Mountain Gun weighs 38.5oz according to the food scale in my kitchen. I have a 4" 629-8 and with its heavy barrel it weighs only around 3oz more. So, the difference in weight is not that much. The two guns feel very different in the hand though because of the difference in barrel weight. I have an IWB holster for a 4" N Frame and have carried both revolvers concealed. They are not too uncomfortable but I dodn't generally carry them concealed unless I have one along to carry on the belt while in the back country and want to go to town.

I pack my 25-13 MG in the woods very often. The MG's are my favorite N-frames. Light enough to confortably carry, but heavy enough not to beat you to death with full power ammo. Their balance is perfect as well, IMO.

I carry it either in a Bianch x-15 shoulder holster or a full flap holster.

I've got a 625-6 and -7 that I ccw frequently in the winter using a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake holster. I'm 5'6" and weigh about 125 and it's no problem. Revolvers conceal MUCH better for me than autos.

I carry this one sometimes for work, and it's slightly lighter feeling than a regular 4" 629. Not at all uncomfortable to carry for a 10 hour shift. I think a 45 Colt MG is the perfect balance of power, size and weight for a carry gun, in the revolver class. Shoots without the bark and recoil of a 44 magnum, with a nice big, heavy bullet.

Jaeger, all full-power .44 Mag factory loads are a handful in a MG as far as I'm concerned. Plus you've got the sonic crack to deal with. 250-280 grains at 950-1050fps is plenty for me.

Thomas, nice pic and great setup. What kind of night sights are those?

Here's some more pics...

I love my 625MGs, a -6 & -7. Great carry guns - excellent 'wood's packing' gun. Both the 250gr Speer #4484 Gold Dot and a 255gr LSWC at 880 fps are easy to shoot and certainly offer great protection. Wood grips are perfect in this power range, too. They weigh a few ounces less than my 4" standard 629 (.44M).

Oddly, I had a 629MG - replaced it with a standard 4" 629 (SKU #163603). The standard 4" 629 has a larger hammer and trigger, not to mention the OR/WO sights vs the MG's black/black sights. Plus - it matches my 6" 629, save the 2" extra barrel. The added few ounces may help, but my 629s sport the recoil-absorbing .460/.500 Magnum grips.

My first S&W was a 625MG - and it will be my last to go. Kind of neat having an S&W with 'Colt' written on it, too.

Thanks crgaston; They're Meprolight night sights. I really like them on S&W's revolvers. Nice pair of MGs.

Here's the 25-13 MG with a pair of Executioner stags. You barely even notice the weight. I can carry this gun all day long in a SimplyRugged holster.

Hey guys, I hate to resurrect a buried thread, but I just picked up a 625-6 Mountain Gun and want to know what stocks would have come from the factory. The previous owner had MUCH smaller hands than I do and replaced the originals with some grips that, while nice, don't appeal fit me at all.

Thanks!
