Don't believe S&W ever chambered any of their revolvers in .45 Colt. .45 ACP...yes but, not .45 Colt. Correct?

You guys have made a believer out of me. I learned something today.

Thanks.

I got this one recently from a forum member. Only put one box thru it so far but I just ordered the dies from Dillon for my 650.

45s just make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

One of the better chamberings IMHO. I have a 45 Colt 625 Mountain Gun that's hard to beat for a "wood walkin' gun".

Okay...another question, please. When was the first chambering in .45 Colt done by Smith & Wesson?

The fixed sight .45 Hand Ejector Model of 1950, Military, also known as the "Pre" M22 was produced in .45 Colt too. In 1952 they made 203 of 'em.
Surely we all see those all the time at the local gun shows, right?

I would say that was probably the Triple Lock. 21 were reported to have been made in .45 Colt. The Triple Lock was made from 1907-1915. I'm not sure if any single actions were made in that caliber.

I own four .45 Colt revolvers and love them all -- big fat piece of lead - Eazy to shoot - whats not to love?

Revolver in 45 Colt

Here is a pair of 625-5 with a 5" barrel chambered in 45 Colt.
There were 1500 of these made in 1993.

S&W has chambered a few of many of their N frame revolver models for .45 Colt, especially revolver models that were also or originally chambered for the .45 ACP. Triple Lock, .45 H.E. Second Model, 1917, even 12 .38-44 Heavy Duties, the 1950 Target and Military/M-26 and M-22, 1955 Target/Model 25... These were practically always special orders until 1977.

In 1977, S&W manufactured 10,000 Model 25-3 and 25-4 revolvers to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the company. These were the first cataloged .45 Colt-chambered guns they made. Demand for them was great, many purchased them for shooters and they sold out fast enough to convince S&W that there was a market demand for a standard production revolver in .45 Colt. In 1980, they began making the Model 25-5, a target sighted N frame in blue or nickel finish with 4, 6 or 8-3/8 inch barrels.

When the stainless steel 625 series began, S&W added variants in .45 Colt to the mix. We got Classics and Mountain Guns in stainless and then blue.

It's a dandy cartridge for the big N frame. S&W should have made them a standard item about 70 years sooner than they did!

Love the 45 Colt and Smith & Wessons.

Pictured below are most of my 45 Colt S&W revolvers.

The snubby in this model 25 group photo is 45ACP.

As you can see, there is quite a variety to choose from.

S&W even chambered about 15 triplelocks in .45 colt. One of my biggest mistakes was not buying one offered to me in almost new condition about 40 years ago! I wanted a .44 special at the time. Later I read there was only like 15 thought made!
