45 LC question

I've loaded 45 LC for a Ruger Blackhawk for awhile now. But the bulk of my loading was with JHP's and JSP's. Only dabbled in lead a tiny bit.

This forum has spurred my interest in crossing the Rubicon into lead, so I just bought some 255 gr. Keith style lead SWC's.

I'm not looking for a hotshot load, just a fun plinker. I used tight group a few years ago for lead but man it's like shooting black powder haha. Is 231 a good subsitute? I'm open to whatever have several powders. CFE pistol, W231, Tite group, unique, and others.

where 44 magnum is it's kissing cousin in many respects, I've taken to using CFE pistol in this role.
You might like todays coated lead offerings. It behaves very much like a jacketed bullet when fired.
Traditional lube makes smoke, and soot to go with that smoke. It is, however, easy to clean.
Coated is only slightly more smoky than jacketed, and is easier to clean than either.
Coated can also let you fearlessly run it up to the redline with H110 or 2400 loads, should a future you find value in that

Lube some 250-255 grainers with SPG and load them over 35 grains of FFg Black for a FUN load in a single action! Shoot outdoors. The local indoor ranges do not permit black powder.

I am finding that BE-86 is a great comparable for 45 colt and 38/357 if you can't find unique.
