45 super conversion

I would not do it unless you have a large amount of spare parts for your 3rd gen. I have never liked the 45 Super because it CAN be chambered in any pistol that will chamber 45 ACP.
There is nothing magical about it, back in the 70s I knew guys who where cutting down 308 Rifle brass to 45 ACP length and stuffing it in Colt 1911s. Since 308 is a rifle cartridge it has a lot more brass in the head. When you make a pistol case out of it there is less volume and although it can withstand more pressure, the pressure will go higher faster. Not a huge thing if you are a handloader slowly developing a round. When the .451 Detonics was developed, the makers wisely made it longer so it would not chamber in a 45 ACP. The 45 Super was developed from the 451 Detonics.
I would do a lot of reading on it before you start using it.

Yep, nothing magical, just more powder in a partially full case = 26-28K psi (vs. 23K psi for a 45 ACP +P). Just make sure you buy some new 45 Super brass from Starline for your work-up loads. They're headstamped as such & stronger. Then only put 45 Super headstamped cases in 45 Super modified guns.
