Turned out that I was the final bidder for a change. Just picked her up yesterday. Overall great shape and looks to have been fired very little. Looking forward to seeing what it can do on my next trip the range.

Gratuitous family pic from top L-R:
4566, 4506, 6906, 6904, & 5906

Yes, I am missing a few .40s(among other things). I am aware of this and actively seeking to remedy the situation:D

That's a nice looking ACP gun. I've been kind of wanting one myself. Let us know how it shoots.

Congrats on the 4506-1 Scatterguy.

I like all of my 3 Gens but when I target shoot, I find myself picking up my 4506-1 a lot more than the other models. It just has a great feel to it.

You're gonna love it. I have always had an affinity for this gun. I own many of them:

4506-1 (all forged parts)
4506-1 (MIM parts)
1006
4526
4505 (just won it!!!!!!!)
I am working on trying to talk a buddy out of a brand new 4506-3.

Careful....they grow on you.

Just a follow up as I finally got to run a few rounds at the range this morning. No big news here in the fact that it ate the box of Federal 230 without a single hiccup. When I slowed down and practiced good follow through, the rounds went where they were supposed to. Love the mild recoil and crisp trigger. Definately a keeper here. My only gripe is how expensive .45 ammo is compared to 9. I know, I know, I need to start reloading. I keep telling myself that I will buy a starter kit after my next gun purchase. The problem is that I always have another "next" gun purchase. Rational thinking tends to evaporate.

Nice. I have about 10 3rd gen S&Ws which are mostly police trade-ins but I have never saw a 4506 for sale along with the others. I would like to have one but I have quit buying and started to sell some due to my age and no one in my family that likes guns. Maybe a trade hmmmm..

I've never seen a -3. What is the deal with that one?

-3 is for the most part a -1 but with only a few changes. The most prominent is all the markings are laser etched. The markings on the -1 were all roll marked if I am not mistaken. Furthermore, it is only marked Model 4506....there is no indication of "-" anything. I believe that all of the internals are the same. It also has the distinction of being the last model of the 4506 that S&W produced. The one I'm STILL trying to purchase is unfired and absolutely mint. I'm am talking hard to get this one.

Thanks for the info. Hey if you ever find one, make sure to post up some pics, I for one would be interested in seeing them.

Congratulations on the 4506. Other than the comments one always hears about these pieces (eats anything, accurate, etc.) I think they are one cool, big hunk of of stainless steel. Mine alternates with my 4566TSW on my nightstand.

Big and bad...nothing like it.

What is the difference between the 4506's no dash and dash? I can't seem to find anything that tells me which is more desirable.

I beleive that I read somewhere that the -* series were a little thicker in portions of the frame or rail and therefore a little heavier. I'm sure that one or more of the gurus here will chime in and set it straight. These guys know their Smiths:cool:
