I should have known better but I purchased a Model 4506 used guide rod off the web. It came damaged, see attached picture.
Can this be repaired? Thanks for any input.

There are very few to be found and new is not an option, especially since it's a discontinued model. I have never seen a picture of a SS version let alone one for sale.

I have one from rarely fired 5906 , find out if it fits will sell it to you for whatever Numrich charges . Don't know why replaced it guess just a green gunowner , the replacement was a little longer . Maybe archive S&W thread on the subject.

Your 5906 is for a 9mm and my 4506 is 45acp. The 4506 has a 5 inch barrel therefore my guide rod is 4 inches long and longer than your 5906. I appreciate you stepping in and trying to offer a solution.

No easy repair.

Yours may still be "serviceable" by catching the unbroken part on the barrel notch.

I have a blue "4506" guide rod I can part with.

Send me a P.M. if interested.

I concur with jsbethel, I just bought two guide rods for my S&W 1006, which are the same ones used in the 4506, from user peh_7 and they are very high quality.

When I bought them they were only $60 each but $50 for any additional rods. I couldn't find a single factory produced example anywhere and I'm glad I didn't find the listing that OP found for that broken one!

Like JohnHL I'd be more than happy sending you a perfect, slightly used factory one until you might get a high end one. BUT mine isn't blued, (🤡,) and is also for a 4506 et al. I've been concentrating on excellent condition, (some NOS,) parts/rebuild kits recently and have accumulated enough parts to again share here.

**** Oops edit to add, PM or email me. ****

I would not say that repair is impossible, but it would certainly be financially more practical to buy a new or used replacement. Ed Brown did briefly make all-stainless guide rods for the 645/4506, I have one. They occasionally show up on eBay, which is where I got mine. At one time, there was a member here on the forums who was making stainless guide rods.

Not sure if they still have them, but contact S&W and ask. They may still carry that one. May replace it under warranty.

Thank you everyone for posting replies and recommendations. I will reach out to forum members to obtain a replacement guide rod for my 4506.
Good to know! …. As 3rd Gen fans, we always like to hear that fellow owners are keeping these bad boyz running, especially the 45XXs and 10XXs.

Paul is an artisan when it comes to making aftermarket stainless guide rods. I had him make a couple for me several years ago and they are still going strong.

I reached out to Paul and he has offered to produce a replacement ss guide for me. I did also respond to another member who has offered to sell me a spare factory rod. Lastly, I have also contacted S&W to see what they can do. I do understand that Paul's item is a considerable upgrade. I've opened a few doors looking for help and everyone has jumped in to assist. This forum is a great resource with awesome members!

I just purchased 3 recoil guide rods from peh_7 for my S&W 1006, and they fit and work perfectly. They are built out of stainless steel and are very durable. Better than the factory ones.
Also shipping was fast and communication was very good.
I highly recommend this seller and product if you love your pistol.

No flaw that I've read about or I'm aware of with my 4506. My objective after recently purchasing this model was to obtain a backup in case something ridiculous occurred. With them being out of production not many guide rods become available. S&W could not offer me any assistance but 2 forum members stepped in and provided me with options. Couldn't be happier or sleep better now that I have perfect working parts at the ready. My attempt to purchase a guide rod online resulted in this post. I should have come to this forum first! I ended up with a factory replacement part as well as an upgraded custom machined part that both work flawlessly. Thank you again forum members!
