My question is how does the Pro-mag stack up against the factory magazine? I am having trouble locating any in my area and have seen the Pro-mags on the internet going for almost ten dollars less than the factory magazines.

I would like to hear from people who have experience with them, because I have heard that Pro-mag quality is kind of a hit and miss situation.

Thanks for all the input, looks like the choice is clear! I will more than likely contact CDNN as I have had good luck with them in the past.

There are at least 4 revisions to the 645/4500 mags but I've had good luck with all of them. Something to keep in mind though is with older yellow and orange follower mags is that you might want to install new springs and followers and that can run $10 plus shipping. That could make a used mag no bargin. It is your ammo feed device and if it don't work, the gun don't shoot. The newest black follower mags have square indents on the feedlips that help hold the round back and slightly lower in the tube than earlier mags.

My rule for Smiths is factory mags only. The only exception is for the 1911 series where the Novaks and some other premium models are OK. It is rightly pointed out previously that the magazine is a most critical part of the semi auto experience, and there is no substitute for a magazine that works.
