I have a 4513TSW older version no rail 6 shot mag. My LGS just got in a 4516. I looked it over and see no reason to buy it as it has 1 extra shot in mag but is heavier in all SS instead of the alloy receiver of the 4513TSW, Am I missing something? Is there something a 4516 offers that is better than a 4513TSW no rail?

Trying to talk yourself out of it.

Seeking rationalisation for your decision with friends (many of whom share your addiction).

Shopping for a gun you really didn't need.

You sir have Thirdgenitus. I would look in the checkbook and if the money is there and the price is okay, snag that puppy and take it to the range. If after time you decide you don't want the gun (HA! Like that will ever happen :p ) you can sell it or trade it for another third gen.

In the mean time, you only go around once, so go big!! :D

I have the 6 rounder 4513tsw and the 7 rounder 4516-1 and 457. They both have their pluses and minuses for carry. Being shorter and lighter the 4513 carries easier. My 4516 also carries great in a IWB holster on the right side with a spare IWB mag on the left side to balance it out. The 4516 is superbly accurate and much more so than it should be for a short barreled .45. I often use it as my training pistol at shooting courses and have over 6700 rounds through mine.I do not regret the purchase of either as they are both fun to shoot and have their place as carry pistols. Only you can decide if you need another 3rd gen. .45 but it is hard to be disappointed if you buy one. Good luck.

Found a very nice 4506-1 in the local pawn shop today. May have been a police gun as there was what appeared to be a laser etched 4 digit number the slide.

I'd say it was easily a 90%, maybe 95% gun with nothing on the exterior that a light buffing wouldn't remove and the internals showed little use. I thought the listed price of $699 for 1 mag and no box was awfully steep though.

What would be a fair counter offer?

I concur with Lost Lake's diagnosis...3rd Genitus! You don't
really want anyone's opinion, do you? I think you are looking
for an enabler.:) I have never shot a TSW, But I do have a
4516-1. Its big fun in a compact package. If you can get it at
a good price I say go for it.:cool::cool:

I own examples of both the 4516 and 4513TSW.

Prior to obtaining a 4513TSW I carried and shot the 4516-3 ALOT! I used it for off duty for many years. The 4513TSW is just easier to carry. I seldom carry the 4516-3 anymore.

Same reliability........but I would agree with oldandslow that the 4516 is just scary accurate.

I shot my 4516-3 next to my Kimber Stainless Target II and my Colt Gold Cup. It grouped better/same, than both of those pistols, at the same distances with the same ammunition.

I think the only more accurate compact 45 out there is the PC Shorty 45. That I've shot anyway.

So.......I advise you to buy it. :) That way you can shoot as much as you want and keep the wear and tear off the 4513TSW. Problem solved. ;) Good luck! Regards 18DAI

Group therapy? Yes, one more 3rd generation auto added to your group. Just one for now!

Help me right here please, I'm trying to get a handle on the compact .45s. The 4516 has a stainless steel frame and the 4513 has an allow frame. Most of the 4516s I've seen seem to be 7 shot. 4513 seems to be 6 shot. Shorty 45 is a 4513 but with 7 shots. Is this correct or are there more variations on this theme? :confused:

Between you 45'ers and the 9mm shooters, y'all are sorely tempting me to broaden my horizons from the two Third Gen 40's I have finally been able to buy. I am already afflicted with ThirdGenitus Type 40, and with my lowered resistance, I realize I'm now susceptible to the Type 45 and Type 9 strains. Arrgh.

The 4516 is a nice handling gun. It was only 1 of 2 3rd Gen S&W I saw at the gun show in E Claire Wi last weekend. They wanted $750 for it. The 4536 (Same but with frame decocker) I got last yr for $500 was a bargain, although I thought it was overpriced at the time.

First of all the 4516 is one excellent gun. I loved my 4516-2, both of them, until I finally got a 4513TSW without the rail. At that point I sold both my 4516-2 pistols and I am still searching for a backup 4513TSW.

I like the 4566 for home defense and the 4513TSW for carry. I found the 4513TSW to be a little more accurate and a lot lighter and easier to carry. The real differences are:

Weight = advantage to 4513TSW
Round count = 1 round advantage to 4516
Reliability = equal
Durability =advantage to 4516
Accuracy = advantage to the 4513TSW
Price = Small advantage to 4516
Ease of finding = advantage 4516

It really boils down to personal preference.

For me the weight prevented me from carrying the 4516 except for rare occasions and since to me it was a carry gun that meant I did not need it really, despite liking the .45ACP for a defense round. The 4513TSW is not a problem for me to carry and I can live with one less round.

My suggestion is that if the weight is not an issue for you go with the 4516, if it is then go with the 4513TSW. If round count is the only issue get a 4513TSW with the rail and have the rail removed. I would bet my life on either gun and would take either of them over the new plastic fantastic stuff being pushed on the public.

I had two third gen 9mms a 6906 and a 3913tsw. I took both to the range cause I knew that I was going to sell one of them. Putting them through there paces and the tactical shot better overall had a better feel as its tighter tolerances feel better in the hand as you pull the trigger the slide racks. The 6906 was not so much, although I could have just a huge used example since it was a CDC pistol but the tacticals are worth the extra and IMO the better option when considering a non tsw vs a tsw.
