.452 and .454

Once upon a time there were two revolvers, both chambered for .45 Colt. One gun's chamber throats were nominally .454, the other .452. The proud owner wanted to keep things simple. Can any harm result from firing cast bullets of .454 diameter through .452 throats? Loads are "standard" pressure. No hot-rodding.

That would not be a problem. It might even help with accuracy.

Like grafsr said, it may help with accuracy, the 454 bullet will be sized again to 452 as it passes
through the cylinder bores on it's way to the forcing cone and barrel.

I use .454 cast bullets exclusively in my 45 Colts with no problems.

The great difficulty comes with a .452 bullet, a .454 chamber, and gosh knows what for the forcing cone. The bullet will be tipped before it gets to the forcing cone. For some reason our favorite revolver company couldn't seem to get this one right.

Or you can buy a $20 .452" Lee bullet sizing die and size right for your .452" gun. No lube needed, just run the bullet through the die. Works like a champ.
