In January I purchased a S&W 2nd model HE that had engraving on the lower right side of the frame 455 COLT W.R.A.CO. and 8-2-15.
The gun letters as being sent to Winchester to test cartridges. I contacted the gentleman who first lettered the gun in 1986 and
he offered to sell me a rollmark tool used by Winchester to mark wooden master cartons of ammo.

Roy, Yes, that gentleman had that die at the S&W meeting & gun show where Colin Dobson bought the gun, and also the end piece of a wooden cartridge box that had the die stamped on it. I think he made up the wooden piece for a display. Colin took the wooden peice back to Australia, but when I later bought the gun from Colin's estate, the wooden end piece could not be located. You can now duplicate it, of course. Good find! Ed.

Ed, you mentioned the box end that did not return from Australia and after speaking with the earlier owner I thought he might have produced it
using the die. When I received the die I also received the balsa wood plate and 6 Dominion 455 Colt cartridge.
