I recently got a used 457, but no mag. SO...I've been buying from various venues. Ended up with a couple of 4516 mags with the yellow followers and the warning to use only in 4516, etc. These function OK except will not hold the slide open on the last round. If I buy the black followers and put them in the 4516 mags, will it solve the problem of failing to hold the slide open after the last round? I can get them from Midway for $2.99/each. Thanks, ken

Well.. that didnt take long! Thanks, CQB!

The current non-painted magazine springs and black nylon followers will work in the 4516 magazine body that was originally equipped with a yellow follower. These are used to replace the springs & followers on older 4516 magazines.

However, bear in mind that the magazine body lips have been revised by S&W over the years. I can't remember off the top of my head which design the early 4516 magazine used.

I've attached an image which illustrates the current magazine for a 457/4513TSW which just has the P-lips, as well as the current CS45 magazine lips, which uses the current P-lip as well as a set of short, angled secondary indentations at the lower/rear corner of the P-lip on each side.

The standard .45 magazine lip design is on the left side, and the CS45 is on the right side.

Thanks Fastbolt for taking the time and energy to post the pics and info. I'll get all of mine out and see how they compare. ken
