My well used 457 has seen a LOT of use. Well cared for, it is still reliable. And I discovered that next to my LE 4566, my 457 is the 45 I shoot the most. And at my part time job at the local public range, it gets carried often too.
I got such good service from this 457, that I started looking for a LNIB example. Just to keep anymore wear and tear off my old one. As compact 45s go, the 457 is hard to beat. And even during the ongoing stupidity in guns and ammo purchasing, I saw some deals still on 457. Probably becuse they are neither plastic nor striker fired. And those facts were BIG plusses in my book.
I found an interesting example on the big auction board. An LE Special order, which I suspect was part of an upstate New York order. It had the cheesy laser etched markings, MIM hammer and trigger and metal Novak low mount sights. Also had a metal mag catch already installed. And the serial numbers after the 3 letter prefix, were the month and year of my birth. Yea, I'm buying that 457.
When it arrived, a quick inspection showed the recoil springs to be new and almost no discernable wear on the rails. I suspect it was an armory spare, that didn't get issued. I swapped out the OEM factory grips for a set of TercGen curved backstrap grips and installed a rubber grip sleeve over them. Perfection! Anchors the 457 in my hand and makes it point very well. A little TW25b grease on the rails and it was off to test at the range.
The range trip went as expected. Boring relaibility. And VERY good accuracy. Which was a pleasant surprise as I have had to work at shooting groups with my other 457. This one holds sub 3 inches at 10 yards using Winchester 230 RA45T. Why not shot further out? Well, like the m&p fanboys chant - "Its not a target pistol!"
Anyways, I am glad to have found this LNIB 457. Sweet shooting, easy carrying with a great trigger. A ot of 45 for the money - still. I am breaking in a new Bang Bang leather holster for it. More on that in my other thread in a few days. Obligatory pic below to "prove it happened". Regards 18DAI
