Just "won" a model 459 in nickel on the big auction site. Don't know if I got a good buy or missed something in the pics.
Winning bid was $301. Average price of the five they have listed in "completed" was over $560.

Wonder if someone might have a look at the now-completed listing to see what I missed.

(I very foolishy sold a 659 a few years ago for some now-obscure reason. Finally got one back in the "accumlation" to go with a 59 and 5946 that BMCM converted from DAO to DA/SA. And it fits in with my too-many others. Now if I could only work up the guts (and bankroll) to go 10mm....)

I see corrosion on the right side of the hammer, numerous scratches on the finish, either a non-factory magazine or a third gen magazine, and replacement stocks. All of that may be why there was little interest as it is not a collectible grade, but is a shooter grade pistol. Assuming it has no mechanical issues, $300 for a nickel plated shooter grade Model 459 is a very good deal in today's market.

I think you did good. I own a 459 as well but mine is blue and I paid a bit more than you did. Original stocks are fairly easy to find and usually reasonable.

The S&W auto pistols I see bringing top dollar are usually mint condition in the original box examples. Slightly used guns with no box and paperwork usually are about 20% to 25% less around here.

I'd say you got an excellent deal. I bought a blued 459 back in the 1980's and paid that much almost. It's a good pistol, wish I'd kept mine.

I also saw that nickel 459 many times...

Good snag on that 459. I also paid $300 for mine and it is definitely the worst shape pistol I have. Had a little rust on it specifically on the safety decock lever and the grip screws. I store it a little "wet" for protection.

It is what it is and I am glad to have it...it is a decent shooter even though the sites aren't that great. It looks old school.

thanks for sharing your score! I have passed on many nickel pistols because they were scratched and did not look appealing to me...I still want one though ha ha. 3GF

Love your "old school" gun. It has a certain mojo to it.
