Does anyone know of which loads various departments are issuing for those that use 45ACP? I figure mostly Winchester Ranger and Speer Gold Dots but I'd like to find out something definitive. Thanks.

In the past 2 years, even police departments have been affected by the ammunition shortage. Many departments can't get what they usually prefer.

My department, the Salt Lake County (UT) Sheriffs Office, issues Federal's "Tactical Bonded" 230 gr. Plus-P jhp, catalog # LE45T1, for deputies carrying .45 ACP. Before that, it was Hydro Shock, both generations (post and no post).

The department permits deputies to purchase and carry handguns chambered for 9mm, .357 Sig, .40 S&W and .45 ACP. Detectives can carry .380 ACP on duty and all can for back-up and off-duty. Recently, we got our .38 Special snubs back for back-up and off-duty. I am not current on what we issue for the others.

In my county the only dept that issues weapons is the S.O. and they carry Glock 21's loaded with Speer Gold Dots.

Last department I worked for (retired Nov 2007) issued Winchester Ranger 230 grain for our Glock 21s.
