45acp moon clips-any quality differance?

I've always had luck with the standard blued steel moon clips bought at gun shows. Some one gave me some of the polymer RIMZ moon clips, but I haven't had a chance to try them out yet. The only ones that didn't work for me were the half moons that came with my 625.

Regards,

Dave

I ordered 100 from oldsargesdropzone.com. They actually sent me 85, which saved me the trouble of throwing away the other 15. Total junk. Way too thick to fit most brass and made of soft, cheap metal. Wasted my $30.

I really like the RIMZ poly clips for range use, they load and unload easy !
Have very little experience with the metal ones, tried them once and they were difficult to use, so quit using them.

I'm using some blued steel ones that I picked up at the gunshow several years ago for $5/dozen. I did takea Dremel and grind the points down a little because they were so hard to load, plus I broke two demooners on them. No problems since I worked on them. $5/dozen was pretty cheap. You don't want to know what .45LC moonies are going for..

Huh! Two of my friends and I use Old Sarge's moons with complete satisfaction. Never any brass fit problems and I have a pretty eclectic collection.

I use a lot of moonclips. Normally have about 1K of 45acp clipped and bagged, ready to go to the range. About the same 10mm, but that's another story. My quality clips from C&S, Wilson Combat and Ranch Products measure .039-.042. They load/unload beautifully, and have enough spring in the steel to return to shape when flexed. The oldsarge clips range .046-.049. The .046 clips are kinda usable, but the .049s are so hard to load and unload, it's not worth the trouble. None of the oldsarge clips give enough cartridge wiggle for a quick reload, and when bent to fit, the soft metal stays that way. Just my experience, but my advice is to spend a few extra bucks and buy quality clips.

Purchase the moonclips from Ranch Products. The last time I checked they were less than $50 a 100 for the blued version. You cannot order from their website but you can call them and they will ship very promptly. They manufacture moonclips for 6x45ACP, 6x38 Super, 8x38 Super, 6,7 & 8 x 38 Special. Great folks to deal with.
