Hi, I just purchased a .460 S&W Magnum. I went to fire it for the first time, it's brand new, and my first two attempts resulted in light primer strikes and the weapon did not fire. The next five rounds fired properly but I'm concerned about the first two. I cleaned the gun before I fired it. Should I have lubed something else? What else could it be? Thanks!

Strain screw loose maybe? The one on the base of the grip.

IS this hard to access? I'm at work and do not have the firearm in front of me. Thanks!

You might have to take the grips off.

Not hard to take grips off but some of the newer revolvers have a 3/32 hex head screw holding the grips on.

So if you dont have 3/32 hex (allen) wrench then you cant remove them if that is the type of screw s&w used on the grips you have.

Video here showing the strain screw. Just ignore what the guy is saying about using it to adjust trigger pull. You want it to be tight.

Factory ammo or handloads? DA or SA? If factory ammo, I like the others would suspect the strain screw being loose, but since it's a new gun that wasn't fired except at the factory, I wonder how it could have backed itself off.

I took the grips off and the strain screw seemed tight, I backed it out and re-tightened it. I will probably take it out tomorrow and see how it is. It was factory Hornady ammo and fired in SA mode. I will be reloading for it once I receive my backordered bullets. I want to nip this issue (if there is one) in the bud as quickly as I can.

Dry fire it like 100 times before you go to the range again.
If it still happens post back or call S&W.
