Traded a 8 3/8" 500SW for this 5" 460sw. SKU: 163465

It was missing all the normal accessories in the box.

I ordered the long comp from SW for ~$62 shipped. I do plan on reloading lead/coated projectiles.

My question - the SW description for the 5" mentioned a short rear sight included, and it was missing in my trade deal.

Does anyone have the short blade optional rear sight that can tell me what projectile weight it's ideal for? Can you help measure the blade?

SW charges $55+ shipping for it, but I'm not sure I even need it yet.

I shot 10rnds yesterday and was pleasantly surprised with the mild recoil compared to the 500SW. This is a keeper.

It is .126

But before you go running after it, why don't you shoot your reloads and determine if you even need it !

If by chance you do decide you actually need it , I would recommend you go with an LPA rear site rather than S&W.
Better range of adjustment .

On the model V when using factory rear sight I find the white outlined version works
better for me.

Here is a Model V with lead comp and LPA sight.

I hadn't considered the LPA, but I agree that I need to shoot more before I buy anything.

Out of curiosity, do you have a favorite target load for the 460sw?

Not really, because I shoot all the different barrel lengths.

I rarely hunt with the Model V, and typically rarely target shoot with it past 30 yards.
For that, I shoot 225 FTX (intended for 45 Colt) under 47 grains of H110- around 2000fps.

Typically my hunting loads use monolith bullets, Barnes, Cutting Edge, and North Fork.

My favorite hunting round is 260 CPS from North Fork (1950 fps).

I do shoot lead also, my woods protection load is 340 grain LFN (1200 fps).

You are going to find 460 is very forgiving to reloading.
Personally, I load for accuracy.

If you want to talk 460 my number is 940 224 8611

Be safe
