Well, I recently purchased a brand new 460XVR, my first handgun. I have read, in several online articles, that the 460XVR can shoot the .45 Schofield rounds. Has ANYONE actually done this? I emailed S&W customer service to ask; I was told that only the .460, .454, and .45LC rounds would work.

Of course, I am considering the Schofield because they cost less and they MIGHT be available. I cannot find ANY .45LC's for sale, anywhere. I bought the last box of .45LC's from my local discount gun store.

Thanks!

I don't know why S&W CS would tell you you can't shoot 45 Schofield rounds in the 460 because you can.

Logic:
The 460 Magnum will fire 460 Magnum rounds, 454 Casull rounds and 45 Colt rounds. A 45 Colt revolver will fire 45 Colt rounds and 45 Schofield rounds. If the 460 Magnum can fire 45 Colt rounds why couldn't it also fire 45 Schofield rounds?

Just checked an article I saved from Handloader #242 on the S&W 460 & it says it's okay to shoot them in it. Just make sure you clean the chambers good before you shoot the longer cased (454, 460) rounds, to avoid sticky extraction, which happens even in a 454 Casull.

and you can also shoot 45 AR

Note the accuracy of each of the cartridges decrease with the bullets distance from the forcing cone.

Personally I reload all bullets in 460 to what ever level I entend to shoot and forgo all the additional cleaning required when shooting the shorter cartridges.

I tried to load 45 auto rim in my 460XVR. The cylinder would not close because the rim was too thick.

Just curious as to why you feel that 45 Schofield ammo would be cheaper? I know of no major ammo company that makes factory Schofield ammo. It's primarily a custom load or hand loaded round used for Cowboy Action shooting.
