Ok to the 460 XVR guys out there. What scopes do you have on yours and are you pleased with it?
I just returned from range today and I'm completely thrilled (sarcasm) that my Burris 2-7X32 handgun scope is falling apart after six shots. The crosshairs are tilted 30-40 degrees to the right. Scope is not shifted or tilted in the rings, it is totally straight. The crosshairs are totally screwed and only after six shots. I had thoughts on leupold but have heard of many guys here and other places that like their Burris. My loads were not top end heavy ones either. They were the starting loads for AA#9 and the Barnes 275gr XPB. Do I just have a bad scope or what? I went with the Burris as I wanted a quality scope. Need some help here and I am going to send the burris back.

I have the Leupold VX3 on my 460 mag and it has held up great through about 100 rounds without any resighting.

I talked to a guy that did scope testing with the X-Frames. Not saying he's an expert, but he sure seemed to know what he is talking about. He said the issue would be just what you experienced as well as the scope tubes crushing. He tested most popular brand of scopes and I don't remember all the results, but I remember he said that Burris had the most issues and Leupold performed the best. I returned my Burris (same one as you), mounted a Leupold (with 3 rings) and like wolf 1956 have had no issues at all.

I use Leupold VX III hand gun scopes (I have 4 of them).

Cheap scope and red dots don't last a cylinder worth of rounds.

I put just over 8000 rounds of 460 through one before it had an issue. Leupold fixed it and returned at no cost.

Tube failures are the result of poor mounting or human error.

I had a late 1980's Burris 7X mounted on a TC in 30 Herrett. My prairie dog loads stretched the barrel lug so there was lock-up problems that TC repaired free of charge. I never had a problem with that scope.

I also have a new variable Burris that is not the equal of the old 7X. The recoil from six 460 rounds is more severe than the recoil of 3,000 .30 Herrett rounds. They just don't make things like they used to build them. Target loads in 45 ACP caused 500 G-Loads in a slide mounted sight used for Bullseye target shooting according to an article about the time the NRA allowed scopes / optical sights in competition.

Same scope problem

I had a Burris on my 460 that lasted about six shots as well. I purchased a Leupold 2x with Warne rings and has held up for about seven years with no need to rezero. Great combo.

Is leupold the only one ou there with decent scopes or is there something better?
I think I'm gonna get that VX-3 coming my way but unsure at this point.

Contact Burris and tell them that the scope did not hold up.
I have an e-mail from a Burris factory guy that told me if I wasn't satisfied with any Burris scope on my S&W 500, they would get me something I was satisfied with. He said they build all their scopes to withstand the recoil of the 500. So I would think this would pertain to the 460 as well.

I also have the Leupold VX3 on my 460S&W. I used the Weigatinny mounts and rings from Weigand Combat mounts and have had no problems. If you get the combo from Weigand they give you a discount. Comes with stainless mount and 3 rings.

The Leupold is obviously the "go to" scope for the X Frame, but I have always wondered how the Nikon Force would perform. Any comments on Nikon on the X Frame?

I just picked one up with the same burris scope. After 14 rounds its all over the place. Has anyone used a scope with an illuminated reticle of any sort? Actually not sure they even have one in a pistol scope. I know in the thread earlier vic3620 mentioned that Burris would replace the scope. Is there even a Burris scope that can handle the 460? I am also looking to replace the scope and rings. I have Leupold and Nightforce on all my stuff but this came with the Burris on it. Guy at the local store tried pushing the Aimpoint micro and mount. Said it could take the 460 with no problem.
