Guy I kknow has one in the $275 rangs he says. My question is would it be a good platform to have some custom work done on for a carry weapon, or should I save my money and look for something else? Is the price fair? What work would you guys have done if any?

Thanks

Hmmm...well, the price is okay - assuming it is in good condition, but I think you could do much better for a concealed carry piece. If money is a problem, you could do a lot worse than a Sigma in 9mm or .40S&W. If money is not an issue, I'd look at the 1911. Plenty of goodies to spend your money on. Good access to knowledgeable gunsmiths, etc. When the 469 first came out, I knew some LEOs who worked narcotics. They loved the concept, but had big problems with concealment. They soon gave up and went with Glocks. The Glock is a good weapon, it just doesn't fit my hands well.

Best of luck,

Dave

The 469 is a GREAT ccw pistol, the 469 is no larger than a Glock 19, so concealment shouldn't be a problem.

I carried a 469 concealed daily when they were first introduced, I always thought it carried well, but accuracy beyond about 10 yards was awful. Since I had to qualify on a course that included 25 yard targets, I swapped back to a M39. I have heard since that mine was the exception and most shot very well.

My issued duty gun for a few years when I was in investigations was the 469 and later 6904. As Kemp wrote, they're no larger than a Glock 19/23. Never had any problems concealing them. I still carry my 6904 quite a bit.

Great CCW gun! Mine is totally reliable, very accurate and a pleasure to shoot. Has about 4000 rounds through it and getting better everyday!
Buy it! You'll like it!

I carried a 469 as a duty weapon & found it to be the MOST reliable pistol I ever fired. Went thru a dransition course from revolver to auto 1200 rds without any proplems at all. We had to quaifly at 25yds. I have worn it concealed with no problems at all. 14 rds ain't too bad. I say go for it.

If you're lucky, it DOES NOT have the ambi safety, as the screw holding the right-side safety on has a tendency to FALL OFF during shooting.....even if Loc-Tite'd on.

Hi dogsoldier,
I must be lucky.
Both of my 469's came from the factory
without amdextrious safeties.
They're totally reliable for close range shooting.

My 469 has a 3rd gen slide installed on it. This allowed a night sight to be installed as there is more meat on the newer slide. Also, the amb. safeties do not have the screw on it but the pressed on safety.

In the late '80s I traded a DW .357 snubby for an electroless nickel 469. I have to say that is was very reliable functioning gun. But as mentioned above, it was the most inaccurate pistol I have ever owned. Good looking gun.
My 39 and 645 shoot very well.

I carried a 669 (stainless) in the late 80s.

It concealed more easily than my 2 1/2" Model 19.
It was totally reliable w/WW Silvertips.
Accuracy was poor (maybe 6-8" @ 25 yards or worse).
I disliked the blocky grip.
It had the ambi safety (no problems).

I much prefer the 3913.

Interesting to read about different accuracy experiences.

I bought one when they first came out. At the time, it was the only semi-auto I owned and I couldn't hit the broad side of a really large barn with the thing. I put it away and haven't shot it since thinking that I must be just a revolver guy.

Fast forwward to a couple of years back when I picked up a scruffy one in a multi-gun deal right here on this very forum. It's as good or better than I am and it's never more than a few feet away.

Nice gun-a friend of mine carries it daily. I'd agree with D-O-Dave though, for about the same money a Sigma would be an equal choice (Sigma rebate coming Oct. 1st, again). It has a fairly short barrel, maybe 3 1/2, and is comparable to the Sigma in its difficulty in grouping shots. Either way and either gun, good for in close. What you gain with a new Sigma is mag capacity and a lifetime warranty versus an equally erratic gun in terms of accuracy with mileage and a smaller capacity with the possibility of S&W not honoring a warranty. No question that the better made pistol is the 469, though. My buddy has had it for years and puts reloads through it nearly every day behind the barn. He can take out a line of cans rapidly on a saw horse at 30 feet with no problem. Something neither of us can do with either of my Sigmas. Now my 639 is another story..........

669 was my first issued semi. The sights sucked. It took two men and a government mule to pull the trigger DA. Fast reset, though. Accurate about minute of bad guy at 50 feet on a good day.. There's lots better choices now.
