5.11/BladeTech holster review....

I ordered this 5.11/BladeTech holster a few weeks ago. It's for a Glock 19/23.
Initial impression of the holster. It is very well made, and solid. The locking mechanism is very strong, it would take a monster to get the Glock out, without first pushing the thumb release. The holster comes with an adjustable belt slide, paddle slide replacement, and a thumb blocker (a cover that blocks the thumb release). If I were to rate this holster on a scale of one to ten, 10 being the best. I would rate it a nine. Only because the adjustable belt slide use to be ordered for a certin belt (width) size. Seems BladeTech went cheap on the adjustable belt slide (one size fits all). It works, but I like the original best.
All this for $50.00.

For a concealed weapon that is a dandy set up. What you have to defend against is someone ripping gun and holster loose from your paddle backing and then having possession of the weapon. That's how crooks train in prison is to rip holster and weapon loose from the mechanism that attaches to the belt.

This is true. This holster is a great improvement over many of the switch activated locking holsters. I never call out any individual brand names, but there are some out there that made the poor decision of putting the weapon release at the trigger guard. Problem with this is that under stress or in the hands of an amatuer, it can lead to an accidental discharge.

The other problem is when they break, they usually lock the gun up permanently. There have been many cases of the holster locking guns up when they are inserted backwards (when doing support hand only drills). A piece of gear that has the potential to end your ability to fight should be met with serious discrepency.

Again, this piece of gear from 5.11 was thought out much better. Good looking rig!
