5.56 Galore

I saw a couple of cases of Federal AE223BKX (American Eagle .223) at academy for $619.99. About twice what it should be, but at least it is coming back.

well,at my age,66, I was simply not interested in ARs anymore. The political tide was turning against them, and I wanted to get some money together to advance my Model 29 collection. I appreciate your asking

And that's perfectly fine.

Your guns, your choice.

And the prices of Model 29's are doing everything except going down.

That X Tac 62 grain is some pretty good ammo. I think it may be the green tip which was a bit more expensive even pre pandemic. Still at 700 it is way up there. It was running around 450 per thousand before Covid if I recall correctly.

During the last run up I saw it for over 1k per case and it was selling. My personal opinion is costs will all come back down. I think it will be 10% or so higher because raw material costs are up. The question is how long will it take. I am stocked at a point I care, but not that much.

At 74 I'm with you all the way...My NIB Colt AR6721 is right where it's been all these years...Someday I intend to wash the cosmoline out of it and take it for a ride......Ben

Better not wait until you need it to see if it works. Get better acquainted with that puppy.

That seems uncalled for. He didn't chasten you for your decision to get out of ARs. He simply gave his opinion about why he was keeping his. Standing ready to defend the 2nd isn't "playing army".

Actually, he kinda threw his unsolicited opinion into somebody else's conversation so …

Whatever. *shrug*

I agree - this was uncalled for:

I could care less what YOU would do. Go play Army with your guns if you like

ARs have many uses outside of "playing Army".

Selling ARs to buy Model 29s is a personal option if you're a M29 collector and must have more of them. But snide remarks to your baby boomer buddies is simply uncalled for - the OP opened the door for the question when he said he got rid of his ARs, I was going to ask why but obviously someone beat me to it and then he wrote this:

well,at my age,66, I was simply not interested in ARs anymore. The political tide was turning against them, and I wanted to get some money together to advance my Model 29 collection. I appreciate your asking

That was polite and fair but on this Forum that is simply guaranteed to cause retorts, replies, remarks, and questions.

First, if someone is at age 66, my personal response would be why are you advancing any kind of collection? For your heirs? :D

But that would be somewhat tongue in cheek.

My real question would be what kind of a defeatist attitude is being evidenced by disposing of "politically incorrect" firearms because of the anti-gun tide? They're really all of a piece, anyway - what firearms do the anti-gunners like? ARs are just easy targets (no pun intended).

I'm good with selling anything to buy something else - we all do that. But selling "America's rifle" (the new definition of "AR") because you're afraid of the political winds is disconcerting, at best, and ridiculous at worst.

I try to not pick fights on this Forum but that defeatist attitude really got my dander up.

You could care less what I would do, but you let what politicians want to do factor into your decision to get rid of your AR? Um...okay...

I belong to an NRA-chartered rifle club, where I shoot my AR and my M1-A. I'm a little old to play Army, thank you.

Sort of back on topic, returned from an over 1500 mile drive to Tenn. through Ga, S.C. and N.C.. Everywhere I stopped had quite a lot of .223, some 5.56, lots and lots of assorted shotgun shells, expensive 7.62 Nato (Federal)$27+ / box of 20 and some new short rifle calibers. Even saw 1 box of 6.8($50). No pistol or revolver ammo and of course No .22 Rf.

You do realize that this is a public forum that sort of solicits unsolicited opinion?

Somebody didn't seem to appreciate somebody else's "tone" …

All I was commenting on was the idea that people aren't always receptive to others butting in with their 2 cents. But, again, it's no epidermis off my posterior. ;)

I get it. The "play Army" comment was way snarky and in the context of this thread seems uncalled for. I guess someone's toast burnt this morning. I just wonder if he realizes that the people who are working to limit ownership of AR's will come after his 29 collection just as fast. I think that's the root of contention, when a gun owner looks down their nose at another gun owner based of the type of gun they have.
