I'm a newbie here. I've inherited a 5 screw and would like to find out some information about it,if anyone can help. The serial # is 354xxx. Thanks.

What caliber? Is it a S&W or something else? Please be more specific about exactly what revolver you have and attach pictures. Lots of different revolvers have identical serial numbers, and a SN itself is totally useless for identification.

It's a .38 S&W Special with a 4" barrel. It has several patent dates on the barrel with the last date of Dec 22 1914. I'll try to get some pics up.

That's better. What you have is a Military and Police (M&P) Model, and SN 354xxx would date its shipment to about 1920. The closest SN on my list is 3535xx which shipped on 9/15/20. It probably has a square butt, and if original, the grips would be checkered wood without the S&W medallions at the top. But it could also have a rounded butt. Blued or nickeled?

Does it look like this one (except with a shorter barrel and maybe not nickeled)?

Yours has a 5" barrel. Measure from the front face of the cylinder to the muzzle. Not in great condition, but if you had to sell it, you could probably get $250-$300. I paid $240 for the one pictured about a year ago.

You are correct. It is indeed 5" from the cylinder to the muzzle. Any ideas as to what it might be worth?
