Looking for a little help from the boys that know: Negotiation underway for a 4", no LE markings, serial number in the S-130000 range. Brauer Bros. #MT374 holster. I would rate 80-85% blue, & decent shape magna's. I would like to give family a fair price, not 'steal' it. Grandpa was original owner, & now deceased & not much history ---went to the grave with grandpa. What say you?

grips do match, and they're pretty good shape, no gouges or chips, comparable wear to the blue. Quite a bit shiner than the HP 28's I have seen before. Is this typical of the older pre-28 versions?, and what year of manufacture, approx?

Second question first: Approximately, I would guesstimate 1955.
(This is based on someone who posted that one with s/n 127xxx shipped May, 1955.)

For this one being shinier than some others, that does get discussed a lot. I have only heard speculation that the ones that went in large orders to PDs got cheapest, dullest finish. Those destined for the "civilian" market just might have received a little more polish, etc. A lot of other ideas are floated about this.

My two cents on price:
It probably would sell online for $1,000, give or take a hundred. But an online seller would have to pay FFL fees, and maybe even a percentage of the sale price to the auction site, etc. Not to mention the annoyance of dealing with tire-kickers. To me, a friends and family price would be somewhere in the $650 to $750 range.

5 screw HP's

All
A pair from the safe.

1. 6 inch came in marked box, has enough metal rings to be a box for target style grips.

2. 5 inch, man made, cylinder cut for moon clips.

Looks to be a 5-screw, early (1955) Highway Patrolman in fairly nice condition with original stocks. The holster is nostalgic but doesn't add much to the value. To me, with 80-85% finish, $800-$850 would be the fair "friends and family" price. Good luck!
