I use a temperature probe for most things in the oven, you'd be surprised how much difference sixty seconds can make.

I put whatever in the microwave and set it for what I think is an appropriate time. When finished I use the finger test. Adjust cooking time accordingly

11 minutes is about what it takes the grandkids make box mac and cheese. Neither compares to noodles in a good white sauce with cheese added.
