I assume, based on the trigger position; that this whole setup is single action only. It would be pretty cool.

As I am use to shooting 52's and I knew in my beady little mind it was a 52 frame, I never tried to shoot it double action. Will ask the owner tomorrow.

On second thought there is no reason to ask my friend. The pistol was made as a Model 52-2, so it would be single action only.

True, but the 39 slide was designed to drop the hammer on safe.
If it does that, then you have a dead gun, and have to either roll the hammer back or manipulate the slide after taking it off safe to fire.
 
A friend of mine picked this up last year at a local gun show. He was a few steps ahead of me or it would have been mine.

That version of the Illinois state police patch is fairly scarce. It dates back to the 1970s.
