547 9mm revolver "factory" porting

Did the 4" 547 9mm revolver ever come with porting as a factory option. Some say S&W sent guns out in the 80's for porting as a "factory" option. I have seen at least one example of this porting on a 547 - What are your thoughts?

I know that Lew Horton had some guns shipped from S&W direct to Mag-na-port and then sold them as "specials". Sometimes they amended the S&W product code by adding a couple digits at the end. Do you have the box with the product code on it?

I've never heard of a factory ported 547, but that doesn't mean squat.

I doubt it, but it could be. In general I have little use for porting, although in heavy recoil guns I can see why it would be attractive to some. I really can't imagine why one would want it on a 9mm K frame.
