Very Nice 547 ,
You definately wont have trouble selling or trading that one .
I recently aquired a 3" round butt version,
Interesting that both have a pinned front site,
Also the barrel profile appears to be identicle to the older 4" Model 14-2 with no grooves machined in the rib.
The original configuration was the 4" square butt version,
1979 , 1 Test gun made
1980 , 100 four inch guns , 40 of the 3" RB's made"Pilot run".
1981 , 11 made.
1982 , 0 made.
1983 , 6486 of the 3" round butts were made "First full production run", ,
1984 , 3460 the majority were the 4" version.
1985 , 178 made.
1986, 3 made .
Total production of K frame 9mms from 1979 to 1986 is 10270 .
Production ceased in 1986 due to "Lack of interest and slow sales"
IMO S&W missed the boat by not offering a 4" target site version .... That would be cool.
Interesting. These are production dates? Per Roy, my pinned 4" with ser# 9D36942 shipped in July 1982. So it would be either a first year production gun or one of 11 total guns made the next year?
