Not true. There are many first person accounts of school kids cheering that day, apart from whatever Dan Rather had to say.

I would link the articles, but they deal with the late President's religion, a verboten subject here. You can find them if you look.

I will take Eddie Barker's word over Dan Rather's.

Yes, I recall a number of my classmates in the liberal town I lived in were none too sad.

My soon to be wife & myself had just came out of the county office after buying our marriage license when we heard the news. We were married the next day. We are still together !!

I don't recall where I was, probably at work, as I had recently started a new job as a real estate appraiser for a governmental agency, but I recall watching a lot of TV later and seeing that ignorant Dallas detective hold up an Italian WW2 Carcano carbine for the assembled press and proudly claiming it was a Mauser rifle and later watching Oswald take one in the gut. I, and most of my family & friends were Republicans so it was a win-lose situation, as that crook Johnson was now President. Ed.

Just finished a book called "The Dark Side of Camelot". It is the most thorough fact filled book I ever read about JFK. An amazing amount of time was spent covering up his dalliances, but the book has much more.

It was my birthday. Party cancelled. No presents. No cake. Completely forgotten. Even my mother forgot it was my birthday. They were all very upset. Terrified of what would happen next. I watched the news with everybody else.

I was in Kindergarten at Westfield Friends Elementary School in Cinnaminson, NJ. I don't remember much of the teacher reaction, but since it was a Quaker school, I can imagine the aftermath. At home, I was glued to the B&W TV!

I was in 7th grade and they called all of the students into the auditorium and made the announcement. About an hour later, they dismissed school and sent everyone home. The next few days were filled with the funeral, the book depository, the grassy knoll, the swearing in of Johnson and Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey in the basement. The funeral procession with the riderless horse and the funeral.
