Hello,

I have a 57 that is missing the front sight insert. I called S&W and they said it has to be cast in there. The repair guy said any decent gunsmith should be able to do this. He also said he would do it for 30 bucks or so. Should I try to find someone locally to do this? Or just go ahead and send it to the S&W repair shop? Or any other ideas that would be helpful.
Thanks

do it yourself. waxed popsicle sticks as a form, two-part epoxy, mixed with a little orange paint.

A blister pack of hardware store epoxy, a bottle of Testor's Day Glow International Orange model paint, and 10 minutes of your time cost a whole lot less than $30.00

They used to sell a kit which was epoxy with a red dye that you mixed and put a piece of plastic on both sides of the sight and then I guess you padded the barrel in a vise and made the angle of the ramp level and the you just glopped it in and made it a little high and filed it even after it hardend. Or you could find a red kids toy and cut a piece of and file to fit and super glue it in. I would use the epoxy.
