I would speculate somewhere between 1k to 1500 depending on mechanics and condition. Not an early one if the case is original. I bought an minty one in the blue box 6” for 1800 a while back. They have a cult following and are desirable. Like any “N” frame there are many factors to consider. Too many to get into on this post.
Bob...Curious as to what you mean by "blue box". I assume cardboard and not a presentation case.

I would expect it to be priced at close to $1500 and sell somewhere between $1200 and $1500 depending on condition. I paid $1170 for this one with presentation box (flocking badly deteriorated) and tools a little over a year ago. Good luck.

Model 57s, and the 4" bbl. in particular, seem to be getting much more popular and more expensive. Same goes for the Model 58s. .41 Magnums were always the "red-headed step child", trailing behind the Model 27s, 28s, and 29s. The first S&W revolver I ever purchased was a blue 4" Model 57 back in 1978. If the finish is really nice (95%+), with presentation case and goodies and another set of stocks, I would think that $1500 is about right. The case alone is $150+. I picked up this minty nickel Model 57 about a year ago for $1200 (without case) and was happy to get it. The .41 Magnum is a great round and I think you'd enjoy it if you decide to buy that Model 57. Good luck!

I got rid of all my M57s. Last one was a 83/8” Nickel, just gun at
$1300. Gun was 90% with Pachmeyer grips. Sold 3 Blue, 6” of condition ranging from 85%-90% at average of $1100. Never had a 4” M57. I’ve only had one M58 which I bought new back around 1969. Never went out of my way to deal on them and would rather have 4” N frame with adj sights.

Presentation case with it. It was flat brand new.

Hey 55 210, You can't buy that gun! If you do you will need to change your screen name to "57 210gr"! The case is not in original condition, it has been recovered with a cloth. This type of liner cannot be found today in original condition as the original covering turned to blue dust. The case is worth $275-$300(higher on Fleabay) and the grips on the gun appear to be Ahrends, an after-market maker that has gone out of business! They sell for $100+ these days! The tool set will sell for $75-$90. All this adds value to the gun, only if it appeals to you!

I see what appears to be a set of target grips in the pic also which may or may not be the originals...$1K - $1.5K would be my estimate...
...BenI have a couple 6" blued and nickel, and 8 3/8 inch all new in presentation case purchased last year model 57 in unfired mint condition. Yes the inside of the presentation case is original like it came out of the factory. Paid around $1,800. Haven't come across a 4" yet.

Nice, early enough to have been a first year gun? I keep looking for one to go with this six inch (SN 238292) but haven't found one yet. Still looking for one of those elusive first year presentation boxes too. Probably not a bad price for your 4 inch.

The factory grips would not have a number. Only magna and service stocks were numbered as they were fitted to the gun. A few early (1950s) N frame target stocks have been found numbered but very few. Those for the 57 would not have been numbered. Presentation boxes were not labeled. The label would have been on the cardboard shipping case in which the box was shipped. The gun would have shipped in a blue box without label with the presentation box below it in the shipping package.

The grips on it look like 1990's Hogues to me. Some 90's S&Ws came with them. They wouldn't be original to a P&R 57. The targets on the lid might be right, depending on the year of the gun. Maybe $11-1200 IMO.

Paid $1,800 for each. Both are no dash and the price is rising fast! Unfortunately. Seems every couple of months what I want costs way more. Yes I know about inflation but I bet they hold up better than the stock market. Ask me how I know.

N451xxx would be early 1978 production. I have a M27-2 that shipped Feb 1978 with SN N447xxx. The very noticeable turn line and imprints on the recoil shield alone would knock it below 95%. If the "speckles" I can see on the frame and the line where the top of the grips are don't clean off, I'd say condition is no better than 80-85%. My guess on value, based on 6-year old valuations from SCSW and non-original stocks, would be $900 or so, maybe a bit more if the frame cleans up (which I would make sure of before the purchase).
Of course, it's really worth whatever you're willing to pay if you want it bad enough.
The pictures in post #14, which I'm guessing are the seller photos, show the gun better than yours. A little cleaning is in order.

Im a mod-27/28 and mod-29 kind of guy. I was around when the mod-57/58 was introduced. Never figured out what niche this was suppose to fill? Was it pushed on the manufactures by the ammo companies to sell more ammo and components? Its just another N frame.
It's pinned, which stopped by 1982; the -2 didn't start until 1988.

Piggybacking on what some of the other folks said, I'd give it somewhere around 85% based on what the photos show, particularly in the areas of the grip frame and the recoil plate. Heavy embossing around the firing pin hole indicates a LOT of firing with some pretty heftily-loaded rounds.
That being the case, be sure to check cylinder end shake, timing and lock-up in both DA & SA modes. Check these in both slow and rapid actuation of the action if seller will allow as this aggravates the cylinder turn line wear and wear on the locking bolt recesses.
What's it worth? Best guess - under a grand. As always, it's worth (to you) what you want to pay for it.

Another guy is saying the -2 didn't ship until years later. Are you sure yours is a -2?
A 57 is not a 27 and the dash numbers associated with each do not have the same dates for introduction. The 27-2 started in 1961 and went until the -3 in 1982. The 57-2 started in 1988 and went until the -3 appeared in 1990.
